An ward-winning graphic designer, Patty served as the first female art director for the Sacramento-based California Chamber of Commerce. She started her career as a fashion illustrator for the former Gray Reid’s department store in Reno, before working at the Tyson, Curtis, Wilson Advertising firm. Following her Golden State assignment in the early 1970s, Patty returned to Reno where she joined the faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno’s publications and graphics division. Starting in the mid-1980s, Patty launched Nevada’s first statewide computer-based graphic design agency, Communication by Design. For many years her firm served numerous major clients in Reno and Southern Nevada, including First Interstate Bank and the City of Henderson. Today, Patty has a studio at Wildflower Village where she paints commissioned paintings of people, pets, and private homes, and teaches watercolor classes. The first books under Patty’s byline were “Where Are All the Magpies—A Memoir,” released in 2012, and “Nada Dada Motel, Reno, Nevada Coloring Book,” released in 2013. Both books are available at Reno’s Sundance Book and Music and in paper form via all major online outlets including Amazon.com. As an eBook, the Magpie book is offered at Amazon.com. Patty is presently working on her third book while busy helping others leave a legacy.
